Hand-painted Organic Cotton.

Satin Double Cloth Blocks.

Using a 24 shaft AVL Dobby Loom.

230 in x 18 in.

Canopy is an installation that captures the quiet experience of standing beneath trees, where light filters through leaves and settles softly on the ground. It reflects the natural exchange between earth and sky, where young growth reaches upward and the canopy provides shelter, rhythm, and calm.

Woven on a 24-shaft AVL Dobby loom using a satin double cloth structure, Canopy explores the relationship between color, light, and dimension. The satin weave allows light to reflect gently off the surface, while the double cloth structure brings depth and a sculptural quality to the textile. The yarns were hand-painted with indigo and reactive dyes, creating organic gradients that echo the changing light patterns found in nature. Crafted entirely from organic cotton, the work prioritizes sustainability in both design and material.

Designed to be suspended from above, Canopy invites viewers to look up and pause. As natural light shifts, the woven surface responds subtly, creating an ever changing interaction between textile, space, and movement. It softens the architecture and offers a sense of quiet presence.

This piece is part of my broader interest in how woven textiles reflect place, memory, and experience. Through cloth, I explore how we connect to our environments, and how those spaces can be transformed through fiber.
